2005 Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament

The Epilepsy Association of the Eastern Shore hosted several profitable Texas Hold'em Poker Tournaments in 2005. The first poker tournament on January 29, at the Ocean Downs Racetrack, in Berlin, Maryland was sold out. Ocean Downs racetrack donated the use of their business facility meeting hall exclusively for the EAES poker tournament fundraiser. The proceeds from the event grossed $13,926.00 and netted over $6,487.00.00 for EAES agency programs. One hundred twelve players registered for the event at the singular racetrack event. Cash prizes were distributed to the 16 winners at the January event. In addition, homemade chili, sandwiches, barbecue chicken, chips and finger food were provided at no additional charge to participants at the event. Jerry Selig from Ocean City, Maryland took the grand prize of $2,500.00. Half of the grossed proceeds were distributed to the winners that placed. All the players that participated in the tournament were winners. The profits from the charity event raised funds for Kids on the Block, Bears that Care, ID Bracelet, First Aid for Seizure, and Scholarship programs at the Epilepsy Association of the Eastern Shore.

The second Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament was held March 19, 2005 at the Powellville VFW Post #2996 in Powellville, Maryland. We are indebted to the members of the VFW in Powellville for making this tournament possible. The tournament grossed $4,320 for EAES. Over 40 players participated. Mark Foti got the wining hand and walked away with the $1,500.00 first place cash purse. Nick Servadio placed second. Once again, the Epilepsy Association of the Eastern Shore would like to thank the managment at Ocean Downs Racetrack in Berlin, Maryland and the Commander and members of the Powellville VFW Post #2996 in Powellville, Maryland for their support of our fundraisers and the volunteers that make these events successful.

A third Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament was held November 5, 2005 at the American Legion Post #194 in Salisbury, Maryland. Over $2,500 was netted! Brian Weeg had the ingrediants for a wining hand taking $1,200 and the silver commemorative bracelet first place. Randy Halfpap sported a strong combination strategy for a second place in the tournament taking home the wining $550 cash prize. EAES would like to thank the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for graciously providing beverages and promotional marketing items for the tournaments. In addition, we would like to thank all the volunteers for helping to make these tournaments succesful.

The poker tournaments netted over $9,700.00 for EAES in 2005. These funds will be used for the agency's Kids on the Block, Bears that Care, ID Bracelet, First Aid for Seizures, and Scholarships programs.
