2008 Sandpiper Open Golf Tournament
Signature Event Raises Over $7,500 For EAES
On June 9, 2008 the fifth Sandpiper Open Golf Tournament took place at Greenhill Yacht and Country Club. The hot and sunny weather favored us this year and we were very wise to keep plenty of donated Pepsi Cola beverages on hand for the thirsty tournament players. A Putt-For-Cash started the day of golf followed by 18 holes of golf. Jack Skilling and Mike Callender, PGA professionals and staff at Green Hill Golf & Country Club offered their experience and resources to help produce a successful tournament. Thank you very much gentlemen. Although the temperature was in the upper 90's the light breeze made for a pleasant outing on the course. In keeping with previous years the Fruitland Redmen Lodge participation was key in making this event so very successful. Thanks again Fruitland Redmen for your continued support of the tournament.
Several special event holes were on the course this year. There was a “longest drive” and “closest to the pin” hole(s). The possible prized hole-in-one 2008 Ford Focus was made possible by courtesy of Sherwood Motors. None of the players sunk the hole for the car --- but a few got very close!
With seventeen businesses (see following list), including restaurants and golf courses, donating gifts that were awarded to winning teams and players --- the tournament continues to be the signature fundraising event for this agency. Participating businesses include:
